Theme: I Believe in Water Baptism

A Renewed Relationship

Read Genesis 7:1–10; 1 Peter 3:18–22

In Genesis we learn that because they had fallen so deeply into sin, God determined that the entire human race would be destroyed. God found one man, Noah, to receive favor. Noah and his family built an ark and lived in it for one year while a flood covered the earth. When the waters receded, God established a renewed relationship with humankind.

And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:21).

By grace, God saved Noah and hinted at the greatest story of human history. The flood did not remove sin, it only punished it. But, Jesus died on the cross to remove sin from those who trust in Him. More than that, when Jesus rose from the grave, He provided eternal life.

Through water baptism, the Christian demonstrates the redemptive story. Immersed in water, the believer follows Jesus in death to sin; arising from the water, the Christian walks in a renewed relationship with God.

Challenge for Today: If you are a Christian, be baptized in water.
