Daily Devotion:
A Royal Hope
Read Zephaniah 1:1 through 3:20
Zephaniah prophesied during the reign of Josiah and enjoyed the benefits of life under a godly king. However, the Lord revealed that apostasy was coming to Judah and a warning had to be announced. The prophet demonstrated a sort of cycle to illustrate his point. He lived in a good time but warned of a bad time that would end in a good time for Jerusalem.
We all experience ups and downs in life. But God is greater than the circles of history, economics, and our experience. He wants us to know that we can always trust His goodness and redemption, in the end. “On that day you will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me, because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride. . . . But I will leave within you the meek and humble, who trust in the name of the Lord” (Zephaniah 3:11,12).
No matter how bleak things look—or how good life is—our God always points us toward a hopeful future. Never despair. Never lose yourself in revelry. Trust God for tomorrow.
Challenge for Today: Take inventory of your life. If it is good, rejoice. If it is bad, trust God to take you to a better day.
